Madison, N.J. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team competed in a non-conference tri-match hosted by Drew University on Saturday at Baldwin Gym. The Nittany Lions dropped both their matches to Rutgers University-Newark (L, 3-1) and to the host Rangers, 3-0.

How It Happened (vs. Rutgers-Newark)
* After dropping the first two sets to the Scarlett Raiders, the Nittany Lions bounced back with a 25-22 victory in the third set to extend the match. Abington held a 10-9 lead in the set and used a 10-1 run to take its first double-digit lead of the match at 20-10. The Nittany Lions recorded three kills and three aces during the surge while taking advantage of four miscues by Newark. Later in the set, Abington led 24-18 after an attack error set the Nittany Lions up with set-point. However, Newark made things interesting by ripping off four straight points to make it a two-point set at 24-22. Abington clinched the set thanks to an error by the Scarlett Raiders.
* In the fourth set, Abington led 5-2 after the Scarlett Raiders scored the first two points of the set. Newark answered with a 6-0 run to take an 8-5 advantage. The Scarlett Raiders held on to the lead late into the set at 19-13. However, the Nittany Lions rallied with a 7-1 run to tie the set at 20-20. Senior Kayla Mason capped the run with a kill. Newark broke the tie and followed by scoring four of the next five points to regain the lead at 24-21. Back-to-back kills by freshmen Kamilla Voinalovich and Jessie Weeks brought Abington to within one point of tying the set. However, on the ensuing rally, Newark's Bella Foster registered a kill to take the set, 25-23, and the match.

* Junior Ellie Van Otten led the Nittany Lions with a season-high 12 kills. Van Otten made just two errors on 26 total attacks. She also recorded four aces and had two block assists.
* Mason, Voinalovich and senior Zayna Jamaladdin all totaled eight kills.
* Senior Ryenn Mamrosch finished with 35 assists to go along with 14 digs.
* Junior Fabiola Medina recorded a match-high and a new season-high 23 digs to go along with three aces.
* For Newark, Cyan Long finished with a match-high 15 kills while recording 19 digs on defense. Jaedyn Simba-Malasarte totaled a team-high 22 digs.
All-Time Series
Today marked just the second meeting between Abington and Newark since starting the series a year ago. The Nittany Lions are now 0-2 versus the Scarlett Raiders in the all-time series.
How It Happened (vs. Drew)
* Back-to-back kills by Jamaladdin and Mamrosch to open the match gave the Nittany Lions an early 2-0 lead. However, Drew answered with four straight points to take a 4-2 advantage. The Rangers held the lead the rest of the set despite the Nittany Lions coming within one point of tying the set seven times. Each time Drew answered to hold off an Abington rally. The latter coming late in the set when a kill by Van Otten made the score 23-22. The Rangers scored the next two points to take the set, 25-22.
* In the second set Abington opened with a 5-1 run which later turned into a 10-4 advantage. Later in the set the Raiders went on a 7-1 run to take its first lead of the set at 14-13. The Nittany Lions regained the lead briefly after two straight points made the score 15-14. However, Drew took advantage of three straight errors by the Nittany Lions to hold a 17-15 advantage. The Rangers held on to the lead and closed out the set with a 6-1 run to take the set, 25-19.
* Both teams battled back-and-forth the entire third set with neither team holding a lead larger than three points. Abington held a 17-15 lead midway through the set, but Drew used a 4-1 to take a 19-18 lead. Both teams exchanged points over the next six rallies as Drew held to the one-point advantage at 22-21. The Raiders scored three of the final four points to win the set, 25-22, and the match.

* Jamaladdin led the Nittany Lions with 12 kills, while Van Otten added seven kills.
* Medina totaled 22 digs; one shy of her season-high that she set earlier in the day against Newark.
* Mamrosch paced the offense with 26 assists to go along with six digs.
* Mason added six kills, while junior Angel Morales had a season-high nine digs.
* For Drew, Victoria Latino finished with 12 kills and eight digs, while Lindsey Millis added nine kills and 21 digs. Aidyn Stone recorded a team-high 22 digs.
