Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Abington Tames Lions, 3-0

Reading, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team made quick work of Albright College as the Nittany Lions came away with a 3-0 victory over the Lions in a non-conference contest on Thursday night at the Bollman Center. Senior Zayna Jamaladdin led the way with a match-high 11 kills, while junior Fabiola Medina recorded a season-high 25 digs on defense.

How It Happened
 
* Abington rallied late in the third set to complete the three-set sweep over the host Lions.  The Nittany Lions found themselves trailing 20-14 but used a 6-0 run to tie the set at 20-20.  Junior Ellie Van Otten jump-started the surge with a kill and then went on to have three straight aces to help fuel the run. After both teams exchanged points, freshman Kamilla Voinalovich recorded a kill to give Abington a 22-21 lead.
 
* Albright regained possession of the lead with two straight points, including a kill by Samantha Lipp to tie the score. Abington answered with back-to-back kills from Voinalovich and freshman Jessie Weeks to make it match-point at 24-23.  On the ensuing rally, a bad set by Albright gave the Nittany Lions the winning points to take the set, 25-23.
 
* Abington took the opening set by the score of 25-16.  The Nittany Lions scored 11 of the final 17 points in the set that featured an 8-1 run to make the score 17-11. Later in the set Abington scored the final four points with three of the points coming of Albright miscues.
 
* The Nittany Lions never trailed in the second set and went on to a double-digit victory at 25-15. Abington led by as many as 11 points after Van Otten made the score 21-10 with an ace.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Jamaladdin totaled a match-high 11 kills to go along with five digs.
 
* Van Otten finished the night with seven kills while also totaling four aces and six digs.
 
* Senior Ryenn Mamrosch paced the offense with 26 assists and added five digs on defense.
 
* Medina registered a season-high and match-high 25 digs. 
 
* Senior Kayla Mason added seven kills, while Voinalovich finished with six kills.
 
* For Albright, Neve Straff and Anyah Carter each totaled a team-best six kills.  Isabella Garay led the team with 14 digs.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the seventh meeting between Abington and Albright since the start of the 2014 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 2-5 versus the Lions in the all-time series. It marked the team's first victory over Albright since 2014.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 19 as the Nittany Lions travel to Goucher College for a non-conference tri-match.  The Nittany Lions will face the Gophers at 11 a.m. and then take on Eastern Mennonite University at 1 p.m.
