Abington Drops Conference Opener at St. Mary’s

St. Mary's City, Md. – The Penn State Abington women's soccer team dropped its United East Conference (UEC) opener at St. Mary's College (Md.) by the score of 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium.

How It Happened

* St. Mary's scored within the first two minutes of the game to take an early 1-0 lead.  Makayla Marvray scored her first goal of the season in the second minute. 
 
* The score remained 1-0 until later in the first half when the Seahawks doubled their lead at 2-0.  Jill Kemp connected on her first score of the year in the 39th minute.
 
* The St. Mary's defense held Abington without a shot in the first half, but the Nittany Lions ripped off seven shots in the second half, including two on-goal. 
 
* In the second half, St. Mary's once again scored within the first two minutes of the start of the half.  Brooke Hall scored her first goal of the season with Charlotte Bryan assisting on the play.  Hall's score came in the 47th minute.
 
* Later in the half, the Seahawks capped the scoring with Bryan coming through with her first goal on the year in the 76th minute to make it a 4-0 game.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Abington goalkeepers Sam Ridler and Kayla Kulp each made four saves in net.
 
* Freshman Grace Smith led the team with three shots, including two on-goal. 
 
* Junior Kaitlyn Frank also had multiple shots as she finished the day with two.
 
* For St. Mary's, Breanna Brown made two saves in net as she recorded a shutout.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the fifth meeting between Abington and St. Mary's since the start of the 2021 season.  Abington is now 0-5-0 versus the Seahawks in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 29 as the Nittany Lions travel to Cairn University in a United East contest.  Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
