Roy Watson is headed into his seventh season as the head women’s volleyball coach for Penn State Abington. In 2024, Abington finished the year with 21 victories matching the 2016 team for most wins in the program's NCAA era. The Nittany Lions also advanced to the postseason for the fifth time in the program's NCAA era. Abington earned the seventh seed in the United East and advanced to the quarterfinal round. It marked the first time under Watson that the team qualified for the postseason in back-to-back seasons (2023 & 2024).
In his first season at the helm in 2019, Watson guided the Nittany Lions to 18 Wins, along with a NEAC Tournament appearance, two North Eastern Athletic Conference All-Conference players, and a Rookie of the Year.
Coach Watson joined Penn State Abington Coaching Staff as the head women’s volleyball coach in 2019 after leading his New Hope Solebury High School program to three consecutive Bicentennial League Championships, three consecutive Suburban One AA District Championships, and three consecutive PIAA State tournament appearances. Coach Watson is also a two-time recipient of the Bicentennial Athletic League Coach of the year award. Coach Watson is proud to assume the role of head women’s volleyball coach and will work tirelessly to bring Penn State Abington success. Throughout his career he has a simple philosophy: work hard, get better.
Coach Watson is also a club director at High Line Volleyball Club where he also also serves as the lead technical coach, club administrator and head coach for several Junior Olympic teams. Over the past decade, Coach Watson has coached successful Junior Olympic programs from ages 13 through 18 years old. Coach Watson is a Double-Goal member of the Positive Coaching Alliance and is also a two-time attendee of Gold Medal Squared Coaching Clinics. He is also CAP II certified through USA Volleyball.
Coach Watson earned a master’s degree in education and a graduate certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis from the Pennsylvania State University. He is also a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Temple University. Coach Watson is a Pennsylvania Highly Qualified, Instructional two-level teacher in the areas of special education, elementary education, mid-level math, mid-Level English and mid-level social studies.
