Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team defeated Cheyney University of Pennsylvania 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-23) on Wednesday night. With the win, the Lady Lions improve to an even 2-2 on the season.
Abington was led by freshman outside hitter
Abby Millan, who collected 11 kills and six digs, while
Leah Brown came up with 13 assists. The versatile setter
Krysten Boyd posted four digs and 10 assists.
Abington opened the first set with help from Millan as she notched seven straight kills to jump ahead 10-5. The Wolves bit back with three straight rallies to catch up but it wasn't enough as Abington closed out the set 25-18.
The second set displayed a back-and-forth rally as both teams notched 12 points off an opposing team error. However, Millan once again posted three consecutive points to seal the 25-19 deal for Abington.
During the third game, both teams went neck-to-neck throughout match as Cheyney refused to give up, as libero Nichel Bryant had three consecutive kills to tie the game at 19 points apiece. However, the costly mistakes allowed Abington to take advantage of the lead and close out the final set with a kill by none other than Millan.
The Lady Lions will return to action tomorrow night at 7 p.m. as they take on Valley Forge Christian College in a non-conference matchup.
