Box Score MEDIA, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team picked up its second straight win in three days after sweeping Penn State Brandywine 3-0 in a non-conference matchup Wednesday night. The Blue and White squad improves to 5-8 overall on the year and has swept six consecutive sets without giving up a set in the last two matches played.
Rachel Bohl (Philadelphia, Pa.), the NEAC Player of the Week, led the Nittany Lions with 10 kills and 10 digs with three service aces on the night, recording her third double-doubles of the season. Freshman setter
Sam Nelson (Doylestown, Pa.) tallied 22 assists as fellow classmate
Cricket Lennon (Bethlehem, Pa.) collected 10 assists. Junior
Kate Schalck (Warminster, Pa.) came up with two monster solo blocks and a block assist with six kills in front of the net for the Nittany Lions.
The Nittany Lions attacked hard and early into the match, picking up the first two games with scores showing 25-18, 25-18 and heading into the start of the third set. Brandywine jumped ahead early into the third set leading by as much as four points with a 13-9 lead midway.
With Abington in the hole, the Nittany Lions began to claw their way back into the game as Brandywine committed a pair of service errors followed by kills from Abington's
Abby Millan (El Paso, Texas),
Heather Kobrzynski (Chalfont, Pa.), and
Megan Tancini (Levittown, Pa.) to tie up the game at 16 points apiece.
After a back and forth battle that saw the third set go into the extra point decisions with both teams tied at 28 points. Finally, an Abington a kill by Schalck and an ace by Bohl clinched the final two points to seal the deal for Penn State Abington.
Abington will test their true strengths as the Nittany Lions open conference play against SUNY Cobleskill, Keuka College and Cazenovia College on Saturday, hosted by Keuka College. After posting seven kills in tonights match, Millan will look to achieve a career milestone of 500 kills, needing just 20 more to achieve such feast.
