Abington Continues to Roll with Win Over Cazenovia

Box Score Abington, PA.—Penn State Abington won its fourth consecutive game with an 85-73 home victory over Cazenovia on Sunday afternoon.

Freshman Nisiar Smith led the way for the Nittany Lions with 24 points. He shot 7-of-16 from the field and 4-for-11 from beyond the arc.

Cazenovia jumped out to an early 13-3 lead before the Nittany Lions began charging back. Smith knocked down four free-throws and Max Alton knocked down two of his four 3-pointers to nod the game at 13-13.

Senior Kyle Battell provided a needed spark off of the bench for Abington. His 3-pointer at 8:45 extended the Nittany Lion's lead to six, and they never looked back.  Every time Cazenovia started making a run, Battell had the answer with a big basket. He finished with nine points on3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc.

Abington took a 41-30 lead into halftime, but the lead was never safe. Cazenovia kept the game tight even when the Nittany Lions extended it largest lead to 22 at the 8:22 mark in the second half.

DeMarcus Bernard when off for 19 points in the second half to keep the game close. Brad LeFevre provided an inside presence with 10 points in the second half.

In the end it came down to Abington hitting more big shots to maintain the double-digit lead. The Nittany Lions shot 46 percent from 3-point range and shot 13-for-19 from the stripe.

Mike Marvin finished the game with 19 points and 13 rebounds to secure yet another double-double, his tenth of the year. Avery Barnes was clutch from the free-throw again shooting 6-for-9 for 10 points. He added 13 boards for a double-double of his own.

Abington is back at it on Jan. 22 at home against Bryn Athyn for the 5 p.m. tip-off.
