Box Score COBLESKILL, N.Y. – The Penn State Abington men's basketball team saw their attempt to win six straight North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) games was cut short as the Nittany Lions fell to SUNY Cobleskill, 60-50, in the Iorio Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
Mike Marvin registered 14 points and pulled in 10 rebounds for his 11
th double-double of the year, while
Devin Jones tallied 12 points with three rebounds for the Blue and White.
Avery Barnes put up eight points and rebounds each, along with four monster blocks on the back court, as
Max Alton came up with three steals and was credited with six assists on the day.
The first half saw four lead changes in the first seven minutes of the game before a jumper from Cobleskill's Bryan Backus sparked a 14-3 run for the Fighting Tigers to lead 26-15 with 2:39 remaining in the first stanza. Abington remained in contention thanks to
Kyle Battell's three-pointer and Marvin's layup as the Nittany Lions trailed by just six points with 31 seconds remaining, but Cobleskillmanaged to put up two additional points to extend the margin to eight points as both teams heading into the locker room at the break.
After the break, Abington came out roaring with a pair of jumpers from Marvin to make it a four point game before Alton found
Kyle Garrett open to drill a bomb from beyond the arc at the 13:46 mark as the Nittany Lions now trail by just one point. Unfortunately, Cobleksill responded with a pair of threes from Kemar Hemmings and Backus to extend the Tigers' lead by seven points.
Abington kept striving to respond back into the game with baskets but only to watch Cobleskill answer back by matching each possession and even extend the margin to as much as 11 points as the clock winded down and Cobleskill handed Abington its second conference loss of the year.
The Nittany Lions will look to get back on track on Sunday when they hit the road for a NEAC matchup at SUNYIT. Tip-off is slated for 12 p.m.
