Women’s Soccer Defeats Wells College, 5-0

AURORA, N.Y. - The Penn State Abington women's soccer team completed a perfect New York road trip by beating the Wells College Express Sunday by a 5-0 margin.
Abington would open up the scoring in the 17th minute courtesy of a Victoria Parker (Philadelphia, Pa.) penalty kick goal. Parker now has four goals on the season.

The Nittany Lions would make it 2-0 less than two minutes later in the 19th minute. Kayla Nolan's (Abington, Pa.) initial shot hit the post, but the ball bounced right to Jennifer Cifuentes (Bensalem, Pa.) who fired a shot into the gaping net for her second goal of the season.

The Blue and White had a series of strong scoring chances in the 28th and 29th minutes, but Wells goalkeeper Quinn Doubet kept the Express in the game with her strong goaltending.

Kayla Nolan would net her 15th goal of the season to make it 3-0 Abington just four seconds before the end of the first half. Nolan now leads the conference in goals. Mallory Mugnier (Glenside, Pa.) drew an assist on the play. Abington would take the commanding 3-0 lead into half.

Just like the first half, Abington dominated and controlled the majority of the second half. Megan Murphy (Warminster, Pa.) would give Abington a 4-0 lead in the 67th minute, while Jill Osborn (Philadelphia, Pa.) made it 5-0 Abington in the 88th minute.

The Blue and White outshot Wells 17-12 for the game. Margaret Sheridan (Horsham, Pa.) made three saves for Abington. Sheridan now has a conference leading eight shutouts.
Abington's stellar offensive and defensive performances this weekend against Keuka College and Wells College is promising for the upcoming NEAC playoffs. Abington should be in prime position to lock down either the number one or number two seed for the postseason.

With the win, Abington improves to 10-4 on the year (9-1 NEAC). They will return to action this Wednesday where they will host the College of St. Elizabeth. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at Hatboro-Horsham High School. Please visit abingtonsports.com for all the latest news on your Penn State Abington athletic teams.
