Galloway, N.J. - The Penn State Abington women's soccer team closed out the regular season by losing to Richard Stockton College 2-1 in double overtime.
The Ospreys would open the scoring just 2:42 into the game. Melissa Trafton tapped in a shot off a cross from Lexi Stasi to give Richard Stockton a 1-0 lead.
Abington would respond with a goal in the 26
th minute. Off a
Victoria Parker (Philadelphia, Pa.) corner,
Brigitta Good (Glenside, Pa.) tapped in a shot past Ospreys goalkeeper Lauren Hayes to tie the game at one.
Richard Stockton outshot Abington 8-2 in the first half.
Margaret Sheridan (Horsham, Pa.) made five saves in the first 45 minutes of play.
The aforementioned Sheridan would come up large in the second half as she stopped nine Richard Stockton shots in total to preserve the 1-1 game. Neither team would score in the first overtime, but it was Richard Stockton who would score the game winner in the 107
th minute.
Off a lose ball, Adrianna Boucher wired a shot into the upper left corner past Sheridan to give the Ospreys the win.
Abington was outshot 30-5 for the game with Sheridan making 15 saves in total.
With the loss, Abington finishes the regular season 12-5 on the year (11-1 NEAC). Abington finished second in the conference behind Penn State Berks and have earned a first-round bye in the playoffs. The NEAC women's soccer semi-finals and championships will be held Nov. 8-9 at Penn State Berks. Start times are TBD.
