Men’s Soccer Defeats Wells in the First Round of the NEAC Playoffs

Aurora, N.Y. - The Penn State Abington men's soccer team defeated Wells College 1-0 Saturday afternoon in thrilling fashion. Gustavo Alegria's (Long Island, N.Y.) goal in the 87th minute was the difference.

Abington and Wells both played an even first half with both teams registering three shots each. Dan Saint-Pol (Perkasie, Pa.) made one save for Abington. The score was tied at 0-0 after the first 45 minutes of play.

Abington's offense in the second half began to pour it on. The Blue and White had numerous scoring chances, but couldn't get a shot behind Wells goalkeeper Michael Sciotti. It wasn't until the 87th minute that the Nittany Lions would break through. Off a corner, Gus Alegria bent home a corner shot that crossed the goal line and into the net to give Abington the 1-0 lead, and ultimately the victory.

Abington outshot Wells 12-7 for the game. Dan Saint-Pol made just two saves.

With the win, Abington advances to the NEAC semi-finals next Saturday, November 8th where they will play the No. 1 seed and host Morrisville State. Game time is set for 11:30 a.m. Abington lost to Morrisville 3-0 earlier in the season. Winner will advance to the championship game on Sunday November 9th, vs. the Lancaster Bible/Keuka winner.
