Madison, N.J. - The Penn State Abington men's basketball team was dominated Sunday by Drew University 120-73 in the consolation game of the Rose City Tip-Off Classic.
Just six minutes into the game, Drew jumped out to any early 20-8 lead. Abington would cut the Rangers lead to eight points at 12:35 mark of the first half, but that would be the closest the Lions would get. Drew took control of the game and dominated Abington in all facets Sunday.
Abington was just 13-for-33 (39.4%) from the field in the first half, while Drew shot the ball at 46.5% rate (20-for-43) during the first 20 minutes of play.
After the break, the Rangers' dominance continued. At one point in the second half, their lead swelled to as much as 52 points. The lone bright spots for Abington were
Dequan Jackson's (Philadelphia, Pa.) 16 points, and
Max Alton's (Pennington, N.J.) 11 points.
Abington (0-2, 0-0 NEAC) shot 28-for-76 (36.8%) from the field, while Drew shot 44-for-81 (54.3%) from the field for the game. The Blue and White were just 2-for-29 (6.9%) from three point land, while Drew was 22-for-42 (52.4%) from beyond the arc.
The 120 points scored was the most points accumulated in a Rose City Tip-Off Classic game since 1984. It was also the most points Drew University has scored in school history. For Abington, this is the first time they have yielded 120 points in over seven seasons.
Abington will be seeking their first victory of the season as they return to action on Tuesday, November 25
th, for their home opener against Arcadia University. Game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
