Abington, Pa. - The Penn State Abington men's basketball team were defeated by Arcadia University, 98-87, in their home opener Tuesday night.
Arcadia jumped out to an early seven point lead in the first half before Abington rallied back to take a slim one point lead at the 11:17 mark of the first half.
Max Alton (Pennington, N.J.) led Abington with 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting in the first half. Alton would finish the game with 23 points.
The Knights took a 42-35 lead into half.
Abington was 14-for-34 (41.2%) from the field in the first half, while Arcadia shot the ball at a 41.2% rate (14-for-34) as well for the first half.
After the break, Arcadia's offense would come alive and their lead grew to as much as 15 points.
Dequan Jackson's (Philadelphia, Pa.) 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting led all scorers for the game. Jackson was one rebound shy of a double-double for the game.
Abington (0-3, 0-0 NEAC) shot 32-for-70 (45.7%) from the field, while Arcadia shot 36-for-66 (54.5%) from the field for the game. The Knights shot an astounding 22-for-32 (68.7%) in the second half. The Blue and White were just 8-for-23 (34.8%) from three point land, while Arcadia was only 4-for-12 (33.3%) from beyond the arc.
The Knights were led by Joe Brown's 24 points on 11-of-14 shooting. Torrell Candelaria added 23 points and seven rebounds, while John Landro added 19 points.
Abington returns to action this Saturday, November 29th, against Neumann University as they participate in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic hosted by Cabrini College. Game is scheduled for a 2:15 p.m. tip-off.
