Women’s Basketball Defeats Notre Dame of Maryland, 53-41

Abington, Pa.- The Penn State Abington women's basketball team improved to 3-1 on the season Sunday, as they beat Notre Dame of Maryland University 53-41.

Abington (3-01 0-0 NEAC) struggled shooting as they were 32.2% from the field for the day. They picked up 48 rebounds and shot just 12.5% from beyond the arc.

Abington's offense struggled early and often Saturday as they jumped out to a 9-8 lead. The Blue and White were just 7-of-27 (25.9%) from the field in the first half. They took a narrow 20-18 lead into half.

After the break, Abington's offensive woes continued. The Nittany Lions shot the ball slightly better (37.5%) in the second half, but it was the struggles of Notre Dame that allowed Abington to pick up the victory.

The Gators were just 16-of-32 (30.8%) for the game.  Notre Dame turned the ball over 21 times compared to Abington's 18.

Stephanie Keyes (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) led all scorers with 17 points on 6-of-16 shooting.

Jessica Schmidt  (Abington, Pa.) added 12 points to go along with her nine rebounds.

Abington will return to action this Saturday, December 6th, as they open up NEAC conference play against visiting Penn State Berks. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
