Abington, Pa.- The Penn State Abington women's basketball team improved to 3-1 on the season Sunday, as they beat Notre Dame of Maryland University 53-41.
Abington (3-01 0-0 NEAC) struggled shooting as they were 32.2% from the field for the day. They picked up 48 rebounds and shot just 12.5% from beyond the arc.
Abington's offense struggled early and often Saturday as they jumped out to a 9-8 lead. The Blue and White were just 7-of-27 (25.9%) from the field in the first half. They took a narrow 20-18 lead into half.
After the break, Abington's offensive woes continued. The Nittany Lions shot the ball slightly better (37.5%) in the second half, but it was the struggles of Notre Dame that allowed Abington to pick up the victory.
The Gators were just 16-of-32 (30.8%) for the game. Notre Dame turned the ball over 21 times compared to Abington's 18.
Stephanie Keyes (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) led all scorers with 17 points on 6-of-16 shooting.
Jessica Schmidt (Abington, Pa.) added 12 points to go along with her nine rebounds.
Abington will return to action this Saturday, December 6
th, as they open up NEAC conference play against visiting Penn State Berks. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
