Men’s Soccer Shutout by the Mustangs

MORRISVILLE, N.Y.-  The Penn State Abington men's soccer team finished their New York road trip with a 1-1 record as they dropped Sunday afternoon's contest to Morrisville State 3-0.

The Blue and White have had trouble recently falling behind early in games and once again they fell behind early Sunday. Morrisville's Jesse Astudillo sent a corner kick into the box in the sixth minute, which was headed into the net behind Dan Saint-Pol (Perkasie, Pa.) by Alan Peckham.

A little over two minutes later, Joe Sheehan would fire a shot over Saint-Pol's head to give the Mustangs an early 2-0 lead. Jacob Chase garnered an assist on the play. Andre Lynahping (Philadelphia, Pa.) had an opportunity in the ninth minute, but his shot was stopped by Mustang keeper Rob Larkin. Morrisville's Julian Rodriguez would pick up red card in the 21st minute and was tossed from the game. The Mustangs played the remainder of the game with 10 men.

Abington was down 2-0 after the first 45 minutes of play. Both teams registered three shots apiece.

The Nittany Lions were dealt a crushing blow in the 47th minute as Morrisville opened up a three goal lead.  Jesse Astudillo set up Joe Sheehan with a one-timer that hit the crossbar, and bounced in behind Saint-Pol.

Abington couldn't get back into the game and their two-game winning streak has been snapped.

The Mustangs outshot Abington 8-6 for the game. Nick Marques (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.), Ludger Noel (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) and Andre Lynahping picked up  yellow cards in the game.

With the loss, Abington's record now stands at 2-4-3 on the season (2-1-2 NEAC). They will return to action next Tuesday Sept. 30 at 7:00 p.m. where they will take on the Lancaster Bible at Hatboro-Horsham High School in Horsham, Pa. for senior night.
