Quenzer Nets Golden Goal In Victory Over Lancaster Bible

HORSHAM, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's soccer team came away victorious in dramatic fashion Tuesday night, as they needed double overtime to beat the Lancaster Bible College Chargers 1-0.

This game could best be described as a tale of two halves.

The Nittany Lions came out somewhat flat in the first 45 minutes of play, in what was senior night at Hatboro-Horsham High School. The Chargers took it to Abington outshooting the Blue and White by a 14-3 margin.  Prior to the game, Brigitta Good (Glenside, Pa.) and Cindy Wade (Abington, Pa.) were both honored for their collegiate careers at Abington. They will be graduating in the spring and fall respectively.

Abington would get their legs under them in the second half.

The Blue and White dominated the Chargers in all aspects of the game. Kayla Nolan (Abington, Pa.) had two glorious chances late in the second half to give Abington the lead, but Lancaster Bible goaltender Kaitlyn Scheuing came up large for the Chargers.

Abington outshot Lancaster Bible 16-6 in the second half. Margaret Sheridan (Horsham, Pa.) made three saves in the second half and 10 saves total for the game.

Neither team would generate much offense in the first overtime, but that all would change one minute and eleven seconds into the second overtime. Off a right corner from Victoria Parker (Philadelphia, Pa.), Ashley Quenzer (Philadelphia, Pa.) headed a ball into the top right corner past Scheuing to give Abington the 1-0 double overtime victory. For Quenzer, it was her second goal of the season.

Sheridan now leads the NEAC with seven shutouts on the year.

With the win, Abington improves to 8-3 overall on the year (7-1 NEAC) and remain undefeated at home. They will return to action this Sunday at Hatboro-Horsham High School against the Swarthmore College Garnet.
