Dominant Second Half Propels Abington Past Penn College

Williamsport, Pa. - The Penn State Abington women's basketball team remains undefeated in NEAC play after their 69-42 victory over Penn College Tuesday night.

The Lady Lions would struggle in the first half, as Abington would have a slim 35-30 lead heading into the dressing rooms. Poor free throw shooting (7-of-17) by the Nittany Lions was a major reason why Penn College hung around during the first 20 minutes of play.

Janaiah Elum (Philadelphia, Pa.) shot 4-of-9 from the field in the first half. In total, Elum registered 14 points in the first half to lead all scorers. Jessica Schmidt (Elkins Park, Pa.) was second among all Abington players in the first half with eight points.

After the break, Abington would go on a 21-4 run to open up the second half.  A three-pointer from Elizabeth Jones (Philadelphia, Pa.) at the 7:32 mark would give Abington a commanding 56-34 lead. The Lady Lions would pull away from the Wildcats in the second half, holding Penn College to just 12 points total during the final 20 minutes of play.

Elum would finish the game with a game-high 29 points on 8-of-17 shooting. Elum was 5-of-9 from three-point range. Jessica Schmidt added 17 points on 6-of-18 shooting and added nine rebounds. Stephanie Keyes (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) would add 10 points of her.

Abington (8-1, 5-0 NEAC) shot only 32.8% (22-for-67) from the field for the game. In total, the Blue and White picked up 55 rebounds and shot only 34.8% from beyond the arc.

Abington will return to action this Saturday, January 17th, as they host the Keuka College Wolfpack. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Abington Athletic Building.
