Abington, Pa.- The Penn State Abington men's basketball team struggled mightily shooting the ball Sunday afternoon, as they were defeated by Wells College 58-48.
A disastrous start for Abington set the tone for the duration of the game. Wells jumped out to an 11-0 lead seven minutes into the game, and the Abington bench picked up a technical foul.
Wells built up a 12-point lead following a layup by Jordan Jean at the 9:18 mark of the first half. The Nittany Lions had a brief rally to cut the Express lead to 17-12 with four minutes remaining in the first half. Abington would trail 24-15 at the half.
Abington was a woeful 6-of-20 (30.0%) from the field in the first half. Wells was 9-of-16 (34.6%) during the first 20 minutes of play.
Abington would claw back into the game in the second half, after scoring 13 straight points in the early stages of the second half. The Nittany Lions would take a 32-28 lead after
Max Alton (Pennington, N.J.) hit a three-pointer with 11:47 left.
Wells' Tyreese Campbell's scored a layup with 11:32 left in the second half that sparked an 18-5 run by the Express. That run would be the end of Abington for the day.
Devin Jones (Philadelphia, Pa.) had a double-double registering 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting while gathering 11 rebounds.
Max Alton and
Dequan Jackson (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored 11 and 10 points respectively.
Abington (5-9, 4-3 NEAC) finished the game a dreadful 15-of-46 (32.6%) from the field.
Abington will return to action next Saturday, January 24
th, as they host Bryn Athyn College. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
