Abington, Pa. - The Penn State Abington women's basketball team remains perfect in conference play as they defeated the Bryn Athyn College Lions 76-49 Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Lions would come out shooting the ball extremely well in the first half, as they jumped out to an early 24-9 lead 13 minutes into the game. Abington would close out the first half on a 7-0 run and take a 40-18 lead heading into the dressing rooms.
Abington was 16-of-34 (47.1%) shooting the ball in the first half. The Lady Lions hit seven three-pointers in the first half on 7-of-16 shooting (43.8%).
Kyra Lunsford (Vineland, N.J.) shot 5-of-6 from the field in the first half. In total, Lunsford registered 14 points in the first half to lead all scorers.
Stephanie Keyes (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) was second among all Abington players in the first half with 11 points.
After the break, Abington's dominance on offense and defense would continue. A layup from
Elizabeth Jones (Philadelphia, Pa.) at the 13:33 mark would give Abington a commanding 58-25 lead.
The Lady Lions would pull away from Bryn Athyn in the second half for their league leading 11
th win of the season.
Jessica Schmidt (Elkins Park, Pa.) would finish the game with a game-high 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting. Schmidt also hauled in seven rebounds.
Janaiah Elum (Philadelphia, Pa.) added 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting.
Kyra Lunsford recorded a double-double with her 15 points and 11 rebound effort, while
Stephanie Keyes (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) was 3-of-5 from three-point range. Keyes had 12 points total on 4-of-7 shooting.
Abington (11-1, 8-0 NEAC) shot 49.1% (28-for-57) from the field for the game. In total, the Blue and White picked up 48 rebounds and shot 45.0% from beyond the arc.
Abington will return to action this Wednesday January 28th, as they travel to Washington D.C. to square off against the Gallaudet Bison. Game time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
