Washington D.C.- The Penn State Abington women's basketball team suffered their first North Eastern Athletic Conference loss of the season Wednesday night, as they fell to Gallaudet 60-39.
The loss also snapped their nine-game winning streak dating back to November.
Abington is one of the better shooting teams in the entire country, but they had their worst shooting performance of the year to date.
Gallaudet held Abington scoreless from the 9:18 mark of the first half to the 1:08 mark of the opening 20 minutes. In the process, the Bison would open up a 20-point lead on the Lady Lions. Gallaudet would take a 28-8 lead into the locker rooms.
Abington (11-2, 8-1 NEAC) was a woeful 4-of-35 (11.4%) from the field in the first half while going 0-for-14 from beyond the arc.
After the break, Abington's shooting struggles continued. Gallaudet's lead would swell to as much as 25 points, as the Bison dominated the game from start to finish.
The lone bright spot for Abington was
Jessica Schmidt's (Elkins Park, Pa.) 14 points on 7-of-15 shooting. Schmidt hauled in 14 rebounds, along with five steals and three blocks in the game.
In total, the Lady Lions were just 16-of-71 (22.5%) from the field, and an uncharacteristically 3-of-26 (11.5%) from three-point land.
Abington returns to action this Saturday, January 31st, as they square off against the Bryn Athyn College Lions. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Bryn Athyn. Abington defeated the Lions 76-49 last Saturday.
