Washington D.C.- The Penn State Abington men's basketball team suffered a setback Wednesday night, as they fell to Gallaudet 71-60.
Abington would start out well as they jumped out to an early 14-8 lead just five minutes into the game. Gallaudet would go on an 11-0 run mid-way through the first half to take a 19-14 lead.
Gallaudet's Trey Gordon would hit a three-pointer at the 3:05 mark of the first half to extend the Bison lead to 35-20. Abington would head into the locker rooms down 37-23.
The Nittany Lions were just 10-of-32 (31.2%) from the field in the first half. Gallaudet was 13-of-29 (44.8%) during the first 20 minutes of play.
Abington would claw back into the game after going on a 12-1 in the early stages of the second half to cut the Bison lead to 44-42. Both teams would trade baskets back and forth, but a three-pointer from Gallaudet's Trey Gordon with 6:38 remaining extended the Bison lead to 11 points at 59-48.
Ben Coleman would hit a three-pointer with just over five minutes remaining to put Gallaudet up 65-50.
Max Alton (Pennington, N.J.) led Abington with 16 points on 6-of-14 shooting.
Dequan Jackson (Philadelphia, Pa.) and
Devin Jones (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored 15 and 14 points respectively. Both players recorded seven rebounds in the game.
Abington (6-10, 5-4 NEAC) finished the game 24-of-72 (33.3%) from the field. They struggled from beyond the arc hitting just 22.7% of their shots on 5-of-22 shooting.
Abington will return to action this Saturday, January 31st, as they travel to Bryn Athyn College. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Abington beat Bryn Athyn last Saturday 73-69 in overtime.
