COBLESKILL, NY – Junior
Molly Wyman (Abington, Pa.) scored a hat-trick in an 8-0 win over SUNY Cobleskill for the Penn State Abington women's soccer team, Sunday afternoon. The Nittany Lions improve 6-3 overall and 4-1 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference.
Eight goals for the Nittany Lions is the most in a single game since almost a year ago when they scored nine against the College of St. Elizabeth on October 15
th.
With the hat-trick Wyman enters the individual game records for goals (tied fourth) and points with seven (fourth place). After the game Wyman now moves into second on the team in goals with five and second in points with 11.
Sophomore Michelle
Michelle Latronica (Philadelphia, Pa.) added two goals (a brace), while
Desirae Holmes (Philadelphia, Pa.),
Haley Keller (Philadelphia, Pa.) and
Mallory Mugnier (Glenside, Pa.) all chipped in a goal.
Midfielder Holmes opened the game in the 3
rd minute with a goal blasted from outside the box, assisted by Wyman.
In the 11
th minute Wyman scored her first goal of the afternoon when Mugnier gave her a nice pass to finish, giving the Nittany Lions the 2-0 lead.
In the 24
th minute Latronica converted on a penalty for the Nittany Lions third goal.
Wyman earned her second goal of the game on a long shot from 18 yards out in the 36
th minute and in the 38
th minute Latronica completed her brace with a goal off a break away.
In the second half Mugnier joined the action with a goal in the 53
rd minute when her shot was deflected in the box to beat the keeper.
Keller added another in the 60
th minute when she finished on a loose ball in front of the net.
Wyman completed her hat-trick in the 82
nd minute when she faced off against the keeper in the box and beat her for the eighth goal of the game.
Abington looks to finish its non-conference schedule when they host Stockton on Wednesday October 7, at 4:00 p.m.
