ANNVILLE, Pa. – After a quiet start to the season, junior
Dequan Jackson (Philadelphia, Pa.) found his rhythm as he knocked down 23 points, but it wasn't enough to overcome Lebanon Valley College falling to the Dutchman 84-72. The Nittany Lions remain winless (0-3) after the contest on Friday evening.
Jackson went 3-of-4 in the opening minutes of the game to give Abington a 9-5 lead. The Dutchman would take a 13-11 advantage after their 8-2 run behind a pair of clutch three-pointers.
Jackson added another seven points to his total in a 15-8 run to push the Nittany Lions to a 26-21 lead in the final ten minutes of the first half.
Two straight shots from downtown would give the Dutchman the lead back, but senior
Devin Jones (Philadelphia, PA.) answered by draining a shot from behind the arc to tie the game.
The Nittany Lions would trade buckets with the Dutchman, but the host would hold the edge at half 43-39.
An opening layup by Jackson in the second half would cut the deficit to two, but the Dutchman followed up with an 11-2 run behind three consecutive shots from behind the arc.
Sophomore guard
Spencer Bartron (Camden, Del.) found his shot from behind the three-point line and knocked down back-to-back shots to bring the Nittany Lions closer, behind 59-51.
Late foul trouble would hurt the Nittany Lions chance at a comeback as the Dutchman pulled away.
Jackson put up his first double-double of the season as he hit 23 points on 10-of-20 shots and scooped up 11 rebounds for the evening. Bartron and Jones would join in both hitting double figures in scoring at 17 and 16 points repectively.
The Nittany Lions will play tomorrow in the consolation match-up against Wilkes University, with tip-off slated for 1:00 p.m.
