Devin Jones (Philadelphia, Pa.) tailed 23 points in the consolation match-up in the Rinso Marquette Tournament, but a late run by Wilkes University gave the Colonels a 68-50 win on Saturday afternoon. Abington drops to 0-4 for the year.
Junior
Dequan Jackson (Philadelphia, Pa.) made two layups to give the Nittany Lions the early lead in the first half. Â Abington held a 9-4 advantage in the first five minutes of the contest.
The Colonels came back on a 6-0 run in the next three minutes to give Wilkes a 10-9 lead. Over the next five minutes the lead would change hands five times, but a 10 point run by the Colonels gave them a 25-15 lead in the final five minutes of the first half.
The Nittany Lions battled back to cut the lead to three points behind clutch shooting from Jones, with Wilkes up 31-28 at the half.
In a defensive second half, Abington stayed within three points with Wilkes leading 42-39, and in the final ten minutes the Colonels shut down the Nittany Lions holding them 11 points for the rest of the half.
Jones led the Nittany Lions with his third game of at least 20 points this season, while Jackson chipped in 12 points and added seven rebounds.
The Nittany Lions will be off until they open conference action, when they travel to Penn State Berks on December 5, at 1:00 p.m.
