Behind the clutch shooting of senior guard
Stephanie Keyes (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.), the Abington women's basketball team handily defeated College of St. Elizabeth 77-56, Sunday afternoon.
The Nittany Lions picked up their tenth conference win of the season and improved to 12-2 overall and 10-1 in the NEAC. After their loss, the Eagles fell to 9-8 overall and 7-5 in conference.
In the first minutes of the contest both teams traded the lead, but a three-point shot from
Maria Farrell ignited a 14-5 run and the Nittany Lions never looked back. Abington walked into halftime with a comfortable 42-23 lead.
The Eagles came out in the second half and battled back, but couldn't cut into their deficit, being outscored by the Nittany Lions 35-33.
Abington held the edge on the floor, shooting 31-of-63 (49%), while College of St. Elizabeth shot (45%) on the afternoon. The Nittany Lions also dominated the boards with 40 points in the paint while the Eagles could only put 16.
Keyes led Abington with 23 points shooting 8-of-15 with three from behind the arc. Junior guard
Janaiah Elum (Philadelphia, Pa.) also contributed 19 points and six rebounds.
Abington will continue conference play on Tuesday night when they travel to Lancaster to face Lancaster Bible at 6:00 PM.
