Lancaster, Pa. - The Penn State Abington women's basketball team suffered a crucial conference loss Wednesday night, as they fell to Lancaster Bible 56-43.
With the loss, Abington drops to 13-3 overall and 10-2 in the NEAC. Lancaster Bible (14-3, 12-1 NEAC) now has sole possession of first place in the NEAC South Division with their victory.
Lancaster Bible would jump out to an early 21-16 lead mid-way through the opening half thanks to some good shooting and stout defense. Abington would struggle shooting the ball during the opening 20 minutes. The Chargers would go on an 8-2 run to close out the first half, and Abington would find themselves down 36-25 at half.
Abington was 12-of-35 (34.3%) from the field in the first half while going 0-for-7 from beyond the arc.
After the break, both teams would struggle to score a basket. A little less than eight minutes into the second half, Abington had scored just two points while Lancaster Bible had none. The Chargers would begin to assert themselves after Kirsten Webster's layup at the 10:24 mark extended the Chargers lead to 11 points.
The Lady Lions were led by
Janaiah Elum's (Philadelphia, Pa.) 16 points on 7-of-27 shooting.
Jessica Schmidt had 10 points on 5-of-11 shooting, along with eight rebounds and two blocks in the game.
In total, the Lady Lions were just 20-of-65 (30.8%) from the field, and 2-of-15 (13.3%) from three-point land.
Abington returns home this Saturday, February 7
th, as they square against the SUNY Poly Wildcats. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
