Cazenovia, N.Y. - The Penn State Abington women's basketball team is now on a three-game winning streak, as they defeated the Cazenovia College Wildcats by a 60-31 margin Saturday afternoon.
Abington would control the game right from the opening tip-off. The Nittany Lions would jump out to a 20-4 lead after a good layup from
Kyra Lunsford (Vineland, N.J.) at the 7:14 mark of the first half.
Abington would take a 32-13 lead into the locker rooms.
After the break, Abington's offensive and defensive prowess over the Wildcats would continue. A jumper from
Breanna Lineman (Philadelphia, Pa.) at the 8:17 mark of the second half would give Abington a commanding 46-18 lead. Abington would force 22 Cazenovia turnovers in the game.
Lineman would finish the game with 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting. She also hauled in 13 rebounds.
Janaiah Elum (Philadelphia, Pa.) added a game-high 21 points on 6-of-16 shooting and was 7-of-12 from the free throw line.
Jessica Schmidt (Elkins Park, Pa.) recorded four points and 14 rebounds.
Stephanie Keyes (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) added 10 points of her own on 4-of-19 shooting.
Abington (16-4, 13-3 NEAC) did shoot the ball rather poorly for the contest as they were just 32.8% (22-for-67) from the field. They struggled from beyond the arc hitting just 21.1% (4-for-19) of their shots. In total, the Blue and White picked up 45 rebounds and shot 48.0 % from the foul line.
Cazenovia was led by Sierra Szwec who scored seven points on 2-of-6 shooting. The Wildcats struggled shooting the ball as they were only 8-for-49 (16.3%) from the field, and 1-for-13 (7.7%) from three-point range
Abington returns to action tomorrow Sunday, February 15th, as they square off against Morrisville State. Game time is scheduled for a noon start.
