GALLOWAY, NY – Despite a solid nine hit offensive performance, the Abington baseball team dropped its second straight game, as they lost to Stockton 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon.
Abington falls to 2-5 for the spring.
Stockton tallied the first runs of the game in the first and second inning taking a 2-0 lead.
The Nittany Lions answered in the top of the fourth when
Matt Meyers (Cheltenham, Pa.) opened the inning with a leadoff double. Senior
Tom Ditro (Philadelphia, Pa), stepped up to the plate and sliced a single to left field driving in the first run.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Ospreys added to their total with a two run double to increase the lead to 4-1.
Abington tried to cut its deficit with a two out single by
Brandon Mau (Philadelphia, Pa) driving in Meyers and making it 4-2 in the top of the sixth.
Stockton added to its total in the bottom half with another two runs off of two errors by the infield, making it a 6-2 lead for the Ospreys.
Abington could not mount a comeback until the ninth inning when
Pat Fitzgerald (Warrington, Pa) knocked a two out double to left field to drive in the Nittany Lions' final run.
Meyers lead the Nittany Lions in scoring, going 2-of-4 with two hits and gaining two of Abington's three runs.
Abington will host its first game of the season tomorrow against Ursinus College at 3:30 p.m.
