Langhorne, Pa.- The Penn State Abington softball squad earned their first sweep of the season Tuesday afternoon, as they downed Cairn University on the road.

The Nittany Lions earned a 5-3 win in game one of the doubleheader, and then completed the sweep with a 15-0 win in game two that lasted five innings. Â

Emily Wrenn (Hatboro, Pa.) and
Jennifer Rakita (Langhorne, Pa.) earned the victories in the pitching circle for Abington, while
Danielle Jones (Levittown, Pa.) had an excellent day offensively.

In game one, Abington would jump out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to some timely from the top of the lineup.
Danielle Jones led off the game with a single and she would advance to second base courtesy of an error.

With no outs and two runners on base,
Breanna Lineman (Philadelphia, Pa.) would single home Jones to give Abington a 1-0 lead. Lineman would later score in the inning to give the Nittany Lions a 2-0 lead.

Cairn would cut Abington's lead to 2-1 in the bottom half of the first inning, and would then tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the second.

Abington would take the lead for good with two outs in the top of the fourth inning.
Emily Mattes (Middletown, Pa.) would give Abington a 3-2 lead as she scored on an error.
Danielle Jones would deliver the knockout blow as she doubled scoring two runs to give the Blue and White a 5-3 lead.

Jones finished game one 2-for-4 with two RBI's.
Emily Wrenn scattered nine hits and struck out seven over seven innings of work.

In game two, Abington's bats exploded offensively.Â

The Nittany Lions would jump out to an early 3-0 lead as both
Breanna Lineman and
Whitney DeLagol (Warminster, Pa.) had RBI's in the inning.

Danielle Jones would homer in the top of the second inning to give Abington a 4-0 lead, and then the Nittany Lions would tack on another three runs in the top of the fourth to take a commanding 7-0 lead.

In the top of the fifth, Abington exploded for eight runs on just four hits to take a 15-0 lead.
Emily Mattes would have two RBI's in the innings.

In total, the Blue and White had 14 hits in game two.
Danielle Jones and
Emily Mattes each had three RBI's while
Breanna Lineman and
Whitney DeLagol each had batted in two runs.

Jennifer Rakita picked up her first collegiate victory as she scattered just two hits and struck out eight over five innings of work. Â

Abington (2-0, 0-0 NEAC) will return to action tomorrow as they travel to play Rutgers-Camden. Game one starts at 3:00 p.m. with game two slated for 5:00 p.m.
