Stevenson, Md.- The Penn State Abington baseball team dropped both games they played Sunday afternoon to the Stevenson University Mustangs.
In game one, Abington jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning as
Brandon Mau (Philadelphia, Pa.),
Bryan Melendez (Lansdale, Pa.), and
Pat Fitzgerald (Warrington, Pa.) all had RBI's in the inning.
Abington would extend their lead to 6-1 in the top of the third inning as the Nittany Lions recorded three hits in the inning.
Mike Scaringelli (Bordentown, N.J.),
Max German (Newtown, Pa.), and
Brandon Mau all had RBI's.
The Mustangs would chip away at the Abington lead scoring two runs in both the bottom of the third and fourth innings to make it a 6-5 game.
Stevenson would take a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Abington would tie the game at 7-7 in the top half of the sixth inning.
Pat Fitzgerald led off the inning with a double down the left field line.
Ted Smallwood (Athens, N.Y.) singled advancing Fitzgerald to third.
Matt Meyers (Cheltenham, Pa.) then grounded into a double play which allowed Fitzgerald to score.
Neither team would score until the bottom of the ninth inning where Stevenson's Kevin Wu singled down the left field line scoring Brody Tennant as the Mustangs took game one 8-7 in walk off fashion.
In game two, both teams' bats exploded offensively.
Stevenson would jump out to an early 8-2 lead in the bottom of the third inning.
Abington roared back in the top of the fourth inning scoring nine runs on nine hits to take an 11-8 lead.
Max German,
Pat Fitzgerald, and
Anthony Pletscher (Hatfield, Pa.) all had two RBI's in the inning.
The Mustangs would hit back-to-back triples in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut Abington's lead to 11-10. The Blue and White would tack on another run in the top of the sixth to make it a 12-10 game.
Unfortunately, Stevenson would score five unanswered runs in the bottom half of the fifth and sixth innings to take the commanding 15-12 lead.
Tom Ditro (Philadelphia, Pa.) was 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI's for Abington.
The Blue and White (2-8, 0-0 NEAC) will continue non-conference play with a game at Rutgers-Camden tomorrow. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
