CAMDEN, NJ – The Abington baseball team held a late lead against Rutgers-Camden, but an 7
th inning rally by the Scarlett Raptors gave the Nittany Lions their ninth loss of the season, losing 4-3.
Abington drops to 2-9 for the season outside of conference play.
The Nittany Lions were led by senior
Tom Ditro (Philadelphia, Pa.) going 2-of-4 with a double, one run and an RBI.
In the first inning Abington got on the board first with a Ditro RBI single to center field. The Nittany Lions unsettled the pitcher by stealing three bases in the inning, including
Matt Meyers (
Cheltenham, Pa.) stealing home to take a 2-0 lead in the first.
The Scarlett Raptors added two runs to the board in the 2
nd and 5
th inning but Abington would take back the lead in the 6
th inning off a
Max German (
Newtown, Pa.) triple to left field, leading 3-2.
Rutgers-Camden was able to add two more runs in the 7
th inning to put the game out of reach for Abington.
Next the Nittany Lions will take the diamond Friday against The City College of New York at 3:00 p.m. at Alverthorpe Park.
