ABINGTON, Pa – Two solid pitching performances from
Michael Dunlap (Princeton, N.J) and
Ted Smallwood (Athens, NY) helped the Penn State Abington baseball team (6-0 NEAC) sweep Penn College (1-3 NEAC) Sunday afternoon. In the nine inning game one, the Nittany Lions edged the Wildcats 8-5 and won a seven inning game two 5-0.
Â
Smallwood dominated the plate in game two, only allowing four hits in seven innings and struck out six batters.
Â
At the plate,
Tom Ditro (Philadelphia, Pa) went 4 for 7 with two runs and two RBI's for the afternoon.
Â
In game one Penn College struck first, but a 5-0 run highlighted by a Ditro RBI double gave Dunlap a comfortable cushion going into the seventh.
Â
The Wildcats tried to overcome an 8-3 deficit in the ninth by adding two runs, but Dunlap was able to close out the inning with an easy ground out to first.
Â
Penn College pitcher Kyle Fox held Abington to three consecutive 1-2-3 innings to open game two. Abington was able to break the deadlock in the fourth inning on a Ditro double to put one across the plate.
Anthony Pletscher (Hatfield, Pa) broke open the game with a two-run homer to left center field, giving the Nittany Lions a 3-0 lead.
Â
Abington sealed the game in the fifth inning on a
Jason Roselli (West Deptford, N.J.) RBI single to left field.
Â
The Nittany Lions will return to action when they host non-conference opponent John Jay College of Criminal Justice Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
