Lancaster, Pa.- The Penn State Abington softball team split two games Monday afternoon against the Lancaster Bible Chargers.
In game one, the Abington offense was stymied by the pitching of Lancaster Bible's Emily Coffman as the Chargers defeated the Nittany Lions 1-0.
Coffman threw a no-hitter while striking out two Abington batters.
Emily Wrenn (Hatboro, Pa.) got the start and loss for Abington as she gave up eight hits while striking out one batter over six innings of work.
In game two, Abington's bats would wake up as the Nittany Lions pounded the Chargers with nine runs on 11 hits in five innings for the 9-1 victory.
Emily Mattes (Middletown, Pa.) opened up the scoring for Abington in the top of the first inning with two run single giving the Nittany Lions a 2-0 lead.
Julia D'Arrigo would cut Abington's lead to 2-1 as she homered in the bottom of the third inning off of Michalea Drogalis (Croydon, Pa.)
Ashley Quenzer (Philadelphia, Pa.) and
Danielle Jones (Levittown, Pa.) each singled and had two RBI's in the top of the fourth inning to give Abington a commanding 6-1 lead.
Abington would tack on two more runs in the top of fifth inning courtesy of
Bianca Monterosso's (Abington, Pa.) two run RBI single and
Danielle Jones' RBI single to give Abington the 9-1 lead.
Michalea Drogalis picked up her third win of the season as she went five innings scattering just six hits while striking out one.
Abington (6-5-1, 4-4 NEAC) will return to action this Wednesday, April 8
th, as Abington will travel to Penn State Berks. Game one is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. while game two is slated for a 5:00 p.m. start.
