Reading, Pa.- The Penn State Abington softball team continued its North Eastern Athletic Conference schedule Wednesday afternoon with a pair of games at Penn State Berks.
Abington took game one by a 7-3 margin and won game two 15-2 in five innings.
In game one, Berks would jump out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Casey Hafer would hit a two-run homerun off of Abington's
Emily Wrenn (Hatboro, Pa.)
Breanna Lineman (Philadelphia, Pa.) would respond with a solo homerun of her own in the bottom of the first inning off the aforementioned Hafer to cut Berks' lead to 2-1.
Berks would extend their lead to 3-1 in the top of the second inning.
Abington would take a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Emily Mattes (Middletown, Pa.) led off the inning with a solo homerun to centerfield to cut Berks' lead to 3-2.
Sheila O'Hagan (Willow Grove, Pa.) then doubled and eventually scored on
Nicole Battaglio's (King of Prussia, Pa.) RBI single knotting the game at 3-3.
Bianca Monterosso (Abington, Pa.) would then fly out to centerfield which scored
Greta Sheridan (Horsham, Pa.) to give Abington the 4-3 lead.
Danielle Jones (Levittown, Pa.) would make it a 5-3 game with RBI single to right field.
Abington would tack on two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the commanding 7-3 lead.
Emily Wrenn (2-2) got the win for Abington as she scattered nine hits over seven innings of work.
Breanna Lineman was 2-for-4 in game one with one RBI.
In game two, Abington jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a
Danielle Jones lead-off homerun.
After a
Whitney DeLagol (Warminster, Pa.) walk,
Breanna Lineman singled home DeLagol to give Abington a 2-0 lead.
Emily Mattes then singled home Lineman for the 3-0 Abington lead.
Sheila O'Hagan provided the big hit in the inning with two-run homerun to left center field which gave Abington a 5-0 lead.
Berks would add two runs in the top of the second and third innings to cut the Abington lead to 5-2.
Abington would respond in the bottom half of the third inning as both Michalea Drogalis (Croydon, Pa.) and
Ashley Quenzer had RBI's in the inning to give Abington a 7-2 lead.
Abington would tack on eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a commanding 15-2 lead. Lineman, Sheridan, and DeLagol all had two RBI's in the inning.
Michalea Drogalis (4-1) picked up her fourth win of the season as she gave up just five hits over five innings.
Breanna Lineman and
Sheila O'Hagan were both 3-for-4 at the plate in game two. Lineman had two RBI's while O'Hagan knocked in three.
Abington (8-5-1, 6-4 NEAC) will return to action this Saturday, April 11, as they travel to Morristown, N.J. to square off against The College of Saint Elizabeth. Game one is scheduled for noon. Game two is set for 2:00 p.m.
