Reading, Pa.- The Penn State Abington softball team won game one of the NEAC Softball championship tournament Friday afternoon against SUNY Cobleskill, 6-1.
Abington would strike first in the top of the first inning. After
Danielle Jones (Levittown, Pa.) and
Whitney DeLagol (Warminster, Pa.) got out,
Greta Sheridan (Horsham, Pa.) smacked a triple to left field bringing
Breanna Lineman (Philadelphia, Pa.) to the plate.
Lineman would strike out swinging, but reached first base on an error from Cobleskill's catcher allowing Sheridan to score for the 1-0 Abington lead.
Abington would tack on another run in the top half of the second inning to take the 2-0 lead.
With one out in the top of third inning, DeLagol singled to center bringing Sheridan to the plate. Sheridan would single advancing DeLagol to third base, who would score on an error by the leftfielder to give Abington a 3-0 lead.
Sheridan would also score an error by the second baseman for the 4-0 Abington lead.
The Blue and White would tack on two more runs in the top of the sixth inning as both Sheridan and Lineman had RBI singles for Abington.
Sheridan was 3-for-4 on the day with one RBI, and three runs scored.
Emily Wrenn (Hatboro, Pa.) picked up her seventh win of the season, as she scattered six hits and just one run over seven innings of work.
Cobleskill came into as the North Division's number two seed with an overall record of 21-6 (15-5 NEAC).
With the win, Abington will now play host Penn State Berks tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
