Baseball Split Final Conference Series against LBC

LANCASTER, Pa. – In its final conference doubleheader of the season, the Abington baseball team split a pair of games with Lancaster Bible Saturday afternoon.  The Nittany Lions dismantled the Chargers in game one with an 18-8 victory.  LBC took game two by a score of 6-4.

Coming into today's game the Nittany Lions had a chance to secure the top seed in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament. A loss to Lancaster Bible and a sweep by Suny Poly gave the Wildcats the No.1 seed in the tournament.

Freshman Pat Fitzgerald (Warrington, Pa.) and sophomore Max German (Newtown, Pa.) combined for five runs and six RBIs on eight hits in the series.

Abington dominated the first four innings of game one, scoring 15 runs on 11 hits highlighted by a two-run homer by Anthony Pletscher (Hatfield, Pa.) in the fourth inning.

Game two would prove to be a heartbreaker for the Nittany Lions.  In the top of the sixth inning senior Fran Caruso (Philadelphia, Pa.) broke a 3-3 deadlock with a leadoff homerun to give Abington a 4-3 lead.  The Chargers outfielder Nate Long would respond in the bottom half of the inning with the game winning three-run home run.

Abington will play its final home game of the season tomorrow morning against SUNY Canton where Tom Ditro, Fran Caruso and Gary Martorana will be honored before the game.
