Ditro Earns Win on Senior Day

ABINGTON, Pa. – Senior Tom Ditro (Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded his first victory of the season on the mound, aiding the Abington baseball team to a 3-2 victory over SUNY Canton in a series split Sunday afternoon.

The Roos took game one by a 2-0 margin and the Nittany Lions rallied in game two winning 3-2.

Seniors Gary Martorana, (Phoenixville, Pa.) Fran Caruso (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Tom Ditro (Philadelphia, Pa.) were honored prior to the contest.

Freshman Pat Fitzgerald (Warrington, Pa.) led the Nittany Lions in their win, going 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.  The versatile Ditro pitched a phenomenal game on the mound, only allowing one earned run on three hits and four strike outs through seven innings of work.

In game one Michael Dunlap (Princeton, N.J.) had his best outing of the season going seven innings with six strikeouts, but a single to center and misplayed ball by the center fielder allowed the two winning runs to score.

A back-to-back double and triple in game two by Fitzgerald and Max German (Newtown, Pa.) gave Abington a 1-0 lead in the first.  The Roos took back the lead by the third inning on a sacrifice fly.  A basses loaded single by Brandon Mau (Philadelphia, Pa.) tied the game, and an error by the Roos scored the winning run for the Nittany Lions.

Abington will travel to SUNY Poly for the North Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament as the second seed. Abington will face off in game two of the tournament against Penn State Berks Friday at 3:00 p.m.
