Reading, Pa.- The Penn State Abington softball team eliminated SUNY Poly from the NEAC tournament Saturday afternoon, as they beat the Wildcats 11-5.
Abington would fall behind 3-0 in the top of the first inning, but scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning thanks to
Greta Sheridan's (Horsham, Pa.) two-run homerun to center field.
The Nittany Lions would tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the second inning, as
Ashley Quenzer (Philadelphia, Pa.) hit sacrifice fly to left field scoring
Whitney DeLagol (Warminster, Pa.).
SUNY Poly would score two more runs in the top of third inning to take the 5-3 lead. Abington once again showed their resiliency as
Breanna Lineman (Philadelphia, Pa.) homered to center field scoring Sheridan to tie the game at 5-5.
The Blue and White would take the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth inning, as Lineman grounded out to shortstop which scored
Bianca Monterosso (Abington, Pa.) to give the Nittany Lions a 6-5 lead.
Abington would tack on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, as DeLagol homered to center field and
Danielle Jones (Levittown, Pa.) singled driving in two runs.
Jones and Sheridan each had two RBI's in the game. Lineman was 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI's. Abington pounded the Wildcats with 16 total hits.
Emily Wrenn (Hatboro, Pa.) picked up the win as she gave up zero runs and five hits in four innings of work.
With the win, Abington will now play Wilson College at 5:00 p.m. today.
