Baseball Topple Berks in the NEAC Tournament

UTICA, NY – In the first round of the North Eastern Athletic Tournament, the Penn State Abington baseball team toppled the reigning NEAC champ Penn State Berks 9-2, Friday afternoon.

Sophomore Jason Roselli (West Deptford, N.J) led the Nittany Lions going 3-of-4 with three runs scored and an RBI for the day. Anthony Pletscher (Hatfield, Pa.) also chipped two RBI's on three hits.

Diego Melendez (Camden, N.J.) notched his sixth win of the season, with a dominate performance on the mound. Melendez pitched a complete game only giving up one earned run on seven hits with five strikeouts.

Berks were first on the board in the first inning, but a Max German (Newton, Pa.) RBI single made the game even. With runners on the corners Roselli lined an RBI single to spark a five run inning to give Abington a 6-1 lead.

A two-run single by German in the fifth inning put the game out reach for Berks.

The Nittany Lions will face off against Penn College who defeated host SUNY Poly earlier in the day. First pitch is slated for tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
