Jackson Makes History in Double Overtime Loss to Wells

AURORA, N.Y. - Junior Guard Dequan Jackson (Philadelphia, Pa.) hit a single game record 40 points and forced overtime against Wells College on Sunday afternoon. The 40 point record is the most the Wells Express have ever given up to a single player.

Unfortunately the Nittany Lions came up short, as they lost to Wells College 81-80 in double overtime. The Nittany Lions fall to 3-11 overall and 3-4 in the NEAC.

In the first half, the Express held a 14-15 advantage in the first ten minutes. Jackson was fouled and hit his two free-throws to give the Nittany Lions their first lead of the half.

Wells shut down Abington's offense in the first half, as they held the Nittany Lions to their second lowest first half total of the season.

Jackson kicked off the second half when he drained a jump shot to start an 8-0 run.

The Express held a slight lead until the final thirteen minutes when senior Yusef Savage (Philadelphia, Pa.) drained a shot from behind the arc to tie the game a 45-45.

The lead changed hands nine times in the final ten minutes of the game, but Wells held a 66-63 lead with 48 seconds on the clock. The Nittany Lions missed their chance to tie with a shot behind the arc, but Savage scooped up the rebound and swung it out to Jackson to finish and send it into overtime.

In the first overtime both teams held strong defensively, with only four points allowed to each team.

Abington held a three point lead in the second overtime with 2:34 remaining in the game. However, the Nittany Lions got into foul trouble and the Express took the lead with five free-throws.  A last second heave by Jackson was not enough for Abington to go to triple overtime and the Express took the game by a point.

Abington will have the week off until they host Bryn Athyn next Saturday January 23, at 1:00 p.m.
