READING, Pa. – In their final match of the regular season the Penn State Abington women's soccer team traveled to Penn State Berks, but fell to its their rivals 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.
The Nittany Lions finish the season with a 9-6-1 record overall and 8-4-1 mark in the conference.
In the first half, Berks opened the match with a goal from Kaylie Smucker in the 21
st minute. Right before the end of the half Monica Pinel broke away and beat the keeper one-on-one to give Berks the 2-0 lead at the break.
Karina Raykova put the game out of reach for Berks with a goal in the 88
th minute, but seconds later junior
Michelle Latronica (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned a penalty kick and converted for her team leading 13
th goal of the season.
The Nittany Lions will back in familiar territory in the NEAC playoffs when they travel to Penn College on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. The Wildcats earned a 2-0 win on their home field earlier in the season.
