Women's Volleyball Closes Regular Season with Trimatch Split

ABINGTON, PA.  – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team closed out the regular season with a tri match split on Saturday afternoon. In the first game Abington cruised to a 3-0 sweep of Bryn Mawr College, but the Nittany Lions had their rally fall short in a 3-2 loss to Goucher College.

The Nittany Lions finish the season with their best record since joining the NEAC with at 21-9 overall and 8-5 mark in the conference.

The Nittany Lions won the first two matches handily with a 25-15 victory in the first set and a 25-14 decision in the second set.  The Owls fought to stay alive for the match in the third set, but the Nittany Lions slip past with a 25-23 win.

In the second match of the day, the Gophers dominated the first set with a 25-12 win, but Abington slowly built momentum over the second set. Goucher held off a late run to win 25-22 to take a 2-0 lead. The Nittany Lions gained energy throughout the third set to keep their hopes alive and came away with a 25-21 win. The women followed up their first win of the set with a huge 25-12 performance in the fourth set to tie the match at 2-2. Both teams battled in the final set but the Gophers came away with a 15-10 decision to win the match.

Freshman Isabel Hoch (Philadelphia, Pa.) set a career record of 37 digs in the second game while she earned 55 digs for the entire day. Cori Watson (Harleysville, Pa.) earned 31 assists through both games.
