Nittany Lions Upset Morrisville State, 2-1

MORRISVILLE, NY – The Penn State Abington men's soccer team traveled to the reigning NEAC Champions Morrisville State and came away with a critical 2-1 victory on Saturday afternoon.

Abington improves to 9-2 for the season and atop the conference with an 8-1 record. In the upset, head coach David Castellanos  earned his 100th career win with the Penn State Abington men's soccer program.

The Mustangs dominated the first half with 15 shots, but sophomore goal keeper Jose Arroyo (Puerto Rico) stonewalled Morrisville State with six huge saves to keep it scoreless going into the break.

In the 66th minute the Mustangs were first on the board with a goal coming off a corner, but only a minute later the Nittany Lions earned a free kick deep in Morrisville States half. Freshman forward Chris Schlegel (Philadelphia, Pa.) took the kick and curled it into the post to tie the match.

Neither team could break out of the stalemate, until the NEAC leader in goals Hernando Villamil (Philadelphia Pa.) capitalized on a defensive turnover and slotted the game winning goal in the 84th minute.

The Nittany Lions will be back in action tomorrow when the travel to Cazenovia College at 2:00 p.m.
