ABINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's soccer team are one step closer to the NEAC Championship game with a 2-1 win over SUNY Poly on Tuesday afternoon.
Abington earned revenge after being defeated at home 2-0 earlier in the season. Now they improve to 12-3-1 for the year.
The Wildcats earned a free kick outside of the box in the 4
th minute and Nick McBride curled the kick just inside the post to give SUNY Poly an early lead.
Minutes later
Chris Van Pelt (Doylestown, Pa.) placed his cross to the right post and found
Richard Domico (Langhorne, Pa.) for his header to the far post in the net.
The pressure ramped up with a 1-1 tie, but neither team broke through going into the break.
In the 57
th minute Ed Worthington (Philadelphia, Pa.) drove a low cross to the far post where it was tapped just inside the post by
Andrew Costa (Philadelphia, Pa.) for the go-ahead goal.
Defensively the back line held firm against the Wildcats and only allowed three shots for the rest of the half.
Abington will travel to host Morrisville State for the semifinal round against Keuka College under the lights at 7:00 p.m.
