SCRANTON, Pa. – Behind a huge performance from junior
Nick Brown (Philadelphia, Pa.) the Penn State Abington men's basketball team earned its first win of the season with an 84-62 win over Sarah Lawrence on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Nittany Lions improve to 1-2 before they head into Thanksgiving break.
Brown led the Nittany Lions with a double-double draining 20 points and scooping up 11 rebounds for the afternoon. Freshman
John Ryan (Warminster, Pa.) dominated around the rim with 18 points and 12 rebounds, Ryan was named to the Hilton Scranton Invitational All-Tournament team with 29 points over two days.
Brown kicked off the game with an early 6-0 run to set the tone for Abington. The Nittany Lions pulled ahead quickly because of their clutch shooting from the floor, hitting 53 percent their shots.
Kenny Bey-Brown (Philadelphia, Pa.) pushed Abington's lead to 15 points over the Gryphons when the junior scooped the loose rebound and put it in with the layup. The Nittany Lions held the double-digit lead going into the break by a score of 40-28.
In the second half the Nittany Lions came out hot and pushed their lead to 23 points off a
Vincent Luciano (Philadelphia, Pa.) shot from downtown. Sarah Lawrence clawed their way back, but clutch shooting from the line helped the Nittany Lions put the game out of reach.
Next up the Nittany Lions will have a break until their home opener against Wilson College on November 30, at 8:00 p.m.
