ABINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's basketball team fought to a well-earned 73-67 victory over Wilson College on Wednesday night.
The Nittany Lions move to 2-2 for the season and pick up their first conference win in their home opener.
Freshman
John Ryan (Philadelphia, Pa.) topped the Nittany Lions scorers with 16 points and freshman
Austin Slawter (Philadelphia, Pa.) added 13 points and 11 assists in the game.
Abington dominated in the paint with 32 points, which included three dunks from center
Nick Brown (Philadelphia, Pa.) over the Phoenix.
Wilson held a slim margin over the Nittany Lions for the majority of the first half, but the Nittany Lions clawed their way back with help from a clutch three from
Momolu Dorley (Philadelphia, Pa.). Brown punctuated the end of the half with his second dunk to give the Nittany Lions a 31-29 lead going into the break.
Ryan kicked off an early 14-1 run with his shot from downtown to open the second half for the Nittany Lions. The Phoenix were hampered in the second half by getting into foul trouble, with two players going to the bench. Wilson fought through and cut the Nittany Lions lead to two points, but another shot from Ryan kicked off a 9-0 run. The Nittany Lions were able to hold on late with clutch free throw shooting.
Abington will travel to the College of Saint Elizabeth on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
