ABINGTON, Pa. – A huge third quarter for the Penn State Abington women's basketball team helped them to a 68-50 win over Notre Dame of Maryland on Tuesday evening. Abington improves to 2-1 for the season.
Three Nittany Lions hit double figures with
Brittany Keyes (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) leading the pack with 15 points. Freshman
Shaderra Jenkins (Philadelphia,Pa.) followed with 13 points and
Marah Hayes (Churchville, Pa.) chipped in 11 points for the evening.
In the first quarter, neither offense could get going in a sloppy period, but the Gators held the 13-7 edge. Abington battled back and kept pace with the Gators in the second period, scoring four shots from downtown. They only trailed 26-24 going into the break.
Keyes set the tone in the third quarter with a beautiful three to give the Nittany Lions the edge. The Gators crawled back and took a two point advantage with seven minutes left. Hayes hit her layup and the Nittany Lions never looked back, outscoring the Gators 19-7 the rest of the period.
The Nittany Lions closed out the game with stout defense and held Notre Dame (MD) to only 10 points in the fourth quarter.
Abington will be back in action when they host its NEAC opener against Wilson College on November 30, at 6:00 p.m.
