ABINGTON, Pa. – A strong second half performance from
Shaderra Jenkins (Philadelphia, Pa.) helped the Penn State Abington women's basketball team to its first conference win of the season with a 95-81 victory over Wilson College Wednesday night.
Abington fell one point shy of tying its single game record set last year against Wilson College.
The Nittany Lions take their first conference victory with a 3-1 record overall and 1-0 in the NEAC.
Jenkins was on fire from the floor with 29 points and 12 rebounds for her first double-double of her collegiate career. Â Sophomore guard
Shayna Rodriguez (Philadelphia, Pa.) followed right behind as she chipped in 23 points on the evening.
The Nittany Lions got off to a fast start in the first quarter taking a 7-0 lead off a
Symantha Marrero (Philadelphia, Pa.) three point shot, but the Phoenix closed the gap. A late five point run brought Wilson within three points 17-14 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter
Alyssa O'Mara (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) bumped the Nittany Lions lead to double digits with her layup with six minutes remaining in the game. A 21-10 run in the final minutes of the game tied it at the buzzer going into the break.
A seesaw third quarter saw 12 lead changes until
Brittany Keyes (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) drained her shot from downtown, to spur a 16-6 run to give the Nittany Lions the lead.
Jenkins put away the Pheonix in the fourth quarter with 12 of the Nittany Lions 26 points in the fourth quarter.
The Nittany Lions will be on the road next, as they travel to the College of Saint Elizabeth on Saturday afternoon, with tipoff at 1:00 p.m.
