ABINGTON, Pa. – In their final home game before the holiday break the Penn State Abington women's basketball team fell to Rutgers Newark, 76-58 on Saturday afternoon. Abington falls to 4-3 for the season to close out the semester.
Sophomore
Shayna Rodriguez (Philadelphia, Pa.)led the team with 17 points for the night.
The Nittany Lions got into foul trouble early in the first quarter as the Scarlet Raiders earned seven points off free throws to aid their lead. Â Rutgers-Newark went up by double digits, but a late three-ball down the stretch from
Symantha Marrero (Philadelphia, Pa.) to cut into the lead.
A stout defensive effort from Rutgers-Newark held the Nittany Lions to only eight points in the second quarter.
Abington stayed competitive with 13 second-half points from Rodriguez but the Nittany Lions couldn't mount a come-back against the Scarlet Raiders.
The Nittany Lions will be back in action after the New Year when they host University of Scranton on January 3, at 6:00 p.m.
