ABINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's basketball team rebounded after yesterday's loss with a 75-47 win over Penn College Sunday afternoon. Abington improves to 4-2 for the season and 2-1 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference.
Junior guard
Symantha Marrero (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Nittany Lions as she earned a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, a season high.
Penn College held a seven point lead late into the first quarter, but the Nittany Lions shifted momentum after a time out with a 10-4 run. The Nittany Lions only trailed by a point after the first quarter.
In the second quarter the Nittany Lions defense smothered Penn College only allowing two points the entire quarter.
Shaderra Jenkins (Philadelphia, Pa.) helped the Nittany Lions pull ahead with five points in the quarter.
The shots were raining in the third quarter, kicked off by a shot from downtown from
Shayna Rodriguez (Philadelphia, Pa.). Abington was hot from behind the arc with five shots made between Rodriguez and
Brittany Keyes (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.).
Abington closed out the game with a 44.3 percent shooting from the floor.
Next the women will host Rutgers Newark next Saturday with tip-off scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start.
